CVA variants
React chapter 115 · class-variance-authority · shadcn · source: joe-bell/cva · stitches variants · Panda cva
The problem
intent and size become nested ternaries: primary && sm && "…", ghost && lg && "…". A third axis (destructive) explodes the matrix. Motion variants (31) solved this for animation; CVA does it for class names.
The pattern that fixes it
cva(base, { variants: { intent: { primary, ghost }, size: { sm, lg } }, defaultVariants }). One call returns the class string. shadcn Button is this plus cn() (114).
